My name is Linda McNeil. I graduated from California State University at Stanislaus (CSUS) with a Bachelors Degree in English. I went on to Chapman University (now called Brandman University) for graduate studies, earning a Teaching Credential.
I began teaching English at East Campus; the following year I moved to Merced High School where I taught until 2001, when Buhach Colony High school opened it's doors for the first time. I am proud to say that I am one of the twelve founding teachers of this school.
I have taught English for 21 years. Over the course of those years I have taught students new to the United States who did not read English. This was one of my most challenging and rewarding classes. I have taught all levels of English: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Honors Juniors and most recently Pre-AP Freshman classes.
Every year, I learn so much from my students. They are the reason I keep coming back every year. When I was originally interviewed for my teaching position I was asked this question, "Why do you want to become a teacher?" My response was, "I am just conceited enough to think that I can teach students what I know and help them grow." I hope that my students agree with that statement.
I am married with two grown children (one of whom teaches at Buhach Colony High School). I have two cats (Onyx and Shelby) and two dogs recently acquired from the Merced County Animal Shelter (Emmie and Louie). The critters occupy a lot of my time after school and on the weekends. They are my fur children. They are spoiled rotten.
Knitting, crocheting, sewing and other needlework are my hobbies. Some times I don't have much spare time in which to do them, but I try to do something every day. Working on my hobbies is a wonderful stress reliever....not that teaching is stressful...but...
